Valley Bank and Trust opened a bank here in the early 1900s. Through its many changes in name and building size, the corner remains a bank. The one unchanging feature is the old clock. Now it is preserved by the city. The original photograph may date from the early 1920's. The later one from 1930s or 1940s. Original name of bank here was Mesa City Bank. Between 1918 and 1932, The First National Bank of Mesa (Charter #11130) was here. After its receivership, I have heard anecdotaly the building became a branch of The Tempe National Bank (Charter 5720) - this may be wrong. Anyway, the picture with Valley Bank and Trust would be between 1932 and 1935. Valley Bank changed to Valley National Bank in late 1934, and thus would have updated their signage soon after. In addition, i understand the parking in the middle of the street was eliminated around 1935.

Year photo was taken: 1932 - 1936c
