This is the first location of the Allegan County Jail.

The building was built in 1906 to house the Sheriff and his family as well as house the inmates of Allegan County. The back of the Jail has 3 levels of cells. Some of the cells have been preserved by the Historical Soceity to show what the cell conditions were like in 1960 when the jail closed and the inmates were moved across the street to the exisiting jail.
