The city, under an agreement with the cabinet, contracted $1.2 million in cleanup activities and landfill capping work at the landfill.
The GPS coordinates will take you to a side street facing the fenced off area. A few years ago the area was a subdivision until the contamination was determined, the residents moved and the houses razed. The fence comes right up to homes adjacent to the property. The landfill was added to the Superfund site because it was a dump used by a lead pencil factory. Just this past year the police department was moved from their headquarters, the old pencil factory, due to high lead and mold levels.
