The Point Defiance Japanese Garden features this red Shinto torii. The torii is symbolic of passing from the everyday world into a spiritual realm and can be found in the temples of Japan and many Japanese gardens.
Pt. Defiance Japanese Garden was created in the early 1900s. A focal point of the Japanese Garden, the 1914 Pagoda, is a replica of a 17th century Japanese Lodge and was originally used as a streetcar station. Today it can be rented for meetings, weddings or parties.
Point Defiance Park is a large park in Tacoma, Washington with many activities: the Point Defiance Zoo, hiking, a scenic drive, public boat launch, marina and boathouse, rose garden, Never-never Land (created by CCC), the Fort Nisqually Living History Museum and the Loggers Museum.
