This lock is part of the Whitewater Canal, which operated in the mid 19th century. The area is now a tourist attraction, with many quaint canal era buildings occupied by shops. I am guessing on the date of the old photo. The canal was drained on the day of my visit. The state still operates a canal boat during nonwinter months.
