This is a non-specific Veterans Memorial located on the outskirts of Rifle, CO. The memorial consists of two 105 MM howitzers, Flag staffs, medallions of the branches of service cast into the base of the flagstaff, benches and plaque. The memorial is available 24 hours a day, though it does not appear to be lit at night. Ample free parking is nearby.

The plaque reads:

FOR OUR AMERICAN VETERANS
A Dedication To
THOSE WHO SERVED IN THE PAST

A Pledge Of Support To
THOSE WHO WILL SERVE IN THE FUTURE

KELLY - HANSEN
AMERICAN LEGION

In 2012, five stones were added to the Memorial. Each stone is 8ft (2.43 m) wide by 5ft (1.52 m) high and weigh about 3 tons (2,721 kg) each. There are approximately 450 names on each stone (front and back). Stars, next to some names, represent a WWII Veteran or a Western Garfield County resident. They will be adding at least 18 more names this year (2013).There is no charge, but donations are greatly appreciated. There are over 3,000 names on the Memorial. There is beautiful statue that watches over the Memorial from the top of the hill." Source

Type of Memorial: Non-Specific Memorial

In Honor Of: Those who have served and those who will serve

Marker Text:

Who Put it Here?: Kelly-Hansen Post No. 78

Description of Memorial:
To be honest, I found this memorial because it is part of a multi geocache. I did appreciate the multiple flagstaffs that fly the American flag, the Colorado flag, two POW/MIA flags and flags of the American Legion. The Kelly-Hansen Post No. 78 is currently the second largest Post in Colorado with 96 members. In 2013, this memorial was greatly enlarged with large stone tablets listing names of Western Slope [Colorado] veterans. A new statue has also been added on the hillside. The statue is entitled "Let Freedom Ring."

Wars mentioned (Multi-war only): Not listed

Date of dedication: Not listed
