Gloucestershire County Council has an impressive home. The original building opened in 1816. It was designed by Sir Robert Smirke for the county magistrates. Much of the original design has vanished beneath later extentions and alterations. As the burdens on county administration grew, the authority needed ever larger premises.

There is plenty of information on this website about the work of the Glouceshire County Council
