UNION COUNTY JAIL
The S.C. board of public works had at least fourteen public buildings under contract in 1822-23. When Robert Mills, acting commisioner rejected a partially built jail of inferior brick before proceeding with this one. Experiences like this fitted him for his later career as Federal Architect and designer of the Washington Monument.
