The "Great Balloon" is a large, orange-colored helium balloon. As this is the first part of the upcoming "Great Park" to open, there is some excitement and buzz surrounding this part of the facility. You can see it from miles away! "Hey, what is that thing?" Don't ask, just ride it!

At one time, this location was one corner of USMCAS El Toro. Since the base has been de-commissioned, and plans for a large park are proceeding, this area will change significantly.

But the best way to see what's happening is to ride the balloon. You can still see the runways of the old base, plus a number of old structures, but new housing and other changes are happening right now. Take a ride on the "Great Balloon"--rides are free!
