The Borovitskaya Tower is at the westernmost corner of the Kremlin walls. The gate beneath it is used by tour groups entering the Kremlin. The Tower and wall were damaged by the French during Napolean's retreat from Moscow in 1812. The clock may date from the extensive repairs done in 1819. It can be seen in old drawings of the gate and tower.
The clock has a single Roman Numeral face. It's location here is probably appreciated by tour guides who are trying to keep their groups on schedule.
