The National Garden features four gardens: a seven-bed regional garden featuring plants native to the mid-Atlantic Piedmont and Atlantic Coastal Plains; a First Ladies’ Water Garden; a formal rose garden; and a butterfly garden.

The plantings are only a year old, and they are still filling-out the space with their growth. Right now the garden resembles a desert garden - small plants surrounded by mulch. Despite claims of stunning views from the amphitheater, they’re relatively ho-hum, just the Conservatory with a backdrop of the U.S. Capitol. The same view from near-by Bartholdi Park is much better.
