The gift shop is located just past the ticket counter. The gentleman working the counter let me go to the machine without paying the museum fee ($14 at the time).
The design is:
(H) An image of the USS Hornet with a banner around the ship reading "Apollo 11" to the left, "Apollo 12" to the right, "USS Hornet" above and "Apollo Recovery Ship" below.
The slide that brings the smashed penny to the retrieval tray was a little stiff, so it took the penny a moment to fall. If it gets stuck, let the attendent know, they might have extras behind the counter.
