This old railway bridge used to be part of the East Cornwall Mineral Railway; it was an independent railway, constructed as a narrow gauge single-track line. The line was completed in 1860. It did not survive after 1872, it ran from Kelly Bray for 7 miles to Calstock Quay. The railway had a drop of 640 feet; this drop included an incline railway worked by a stationary steam engine at the top of the hill.
