Brigadier General George M. Love is one of several men buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo who earned the Medal of Honor.

George Love entered the Union Army as a member of the 21st New York Volunteer Infantry, rising to its Sergeant Major. He was then commissioned a Captain in the 44th New York Volunteer Infantry before becoming Colonel and commander of the 116th New York Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery at the Battle of Cedar Creek, VA on December 19, 1864. His citation reads simply "Capture of battle flag of 2nd South Carolina (C.S.A.)". His Medal was awarded to him on March 6, 1865, and he was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers the next day, March 7, 1865. He remained in the Regular Army after the war, and retired as a 1st Lieutenant in 1883. Love was born January 01, 1831 in Buffalo, NY and died March 15, 1887. His gravesite is directly in front of President Millard Fillmore's memorial in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo.
