Charles Alvin Orr was a Private in the Union Army in Company G, 187th New York Volunteer Infantry. He earned the medal of honor at Hatchers Run, VA on October 27, 1864. His citation reads: "This soldier and two others, voluntarily and under fire, rescued several wounded and helpless soldiers." Orr was born in Holland, NY and joined the infantry in Bennington, NY. The medal of honor was presented to him April 1, 1898. He died October 28, 1923 and is buried with the rest of his family in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo.
