San Juan Bautista is the 15th of the California Missions founded by Father Junipero Serra. The cemetery holds the remains of over 4,000 Christian Native Americans and Europeans in thousands of unmarked graves who have died over the centuries. This cemetary holds the grave of Ascencion Solorzano the last pureblood Native of this Mission.
Today the cemetary is open to visitors of the San Juan Bautista Mission, however the area closest to the tombstones and grounds are restricted to preserve the grounds.
