The home known as the Palmer home was buit in 1918-19 by Will Palmer, the maternal grandfather of author Alex Haley. As a child, Alex listened to the stories of his grandmother and aunts that later inspired him to write "Roots".
Alex Haley is buried on the museum ground and the home is open as a museum open to the public.
