On our first day of our trip we headed out late and ran into traffic. Nothing like watching 4 lanes dwindle down to 1. It was like they built a wall to keep us in Michigan.
Finally, we were in Illinois, and heading to Missouri. We planned on staying at the Wagon Wheel in Cuba, MO. Well, when we got there the office was closed, so we pressed on.
Well we drove and drove late into the night. The next thing we knew, we were in Stroud, OK early the next morning. We pulled into the Skyliner, got a room, and took a nap.
Bob, the owner of the Skyliner seemed like a great guy. Constantly working to keep the place looking good. He said it costs him $200 just to have the neon guy come out to look at the sign each time it gets taken out. Usually by bad weather, sometimes by bored teenagers.
Only makes us appreciate these old signs that much more.
