North base; 1861 TO 1865 (IN RAISED LETERS)
West face;
R.P. CARPENTER POST NO. 41
South face;
TO THE MEMORY OF OUR NOBLE DEAD WHO FREELY GAVE THEIR LIVES THAT OUR COUNTRYS FLAG MIGHT BE MAINTAINED UNSULLIED.

There are cannons on the west and east side of the monument.
