Then: "San Juan's oldest building, now protected along with others as part of the San Juan Bautista State Monument, is the PLAZA HOTEL, W. side of the Plaza, probably built about 1792 as a one-story, tiled adobe and enlarged with a second story of wood in 1856 when Angelo Zanetta opened it as a hotel. A stopping place for as many as n stage lines on the San Francisco - Los Angeles route, it made a name for its wines and cuisine."
Now: The city's now called San Juan Bautista. San Juan Bautista Monument is now San Juan Bautista state historical park. The hotel is now a museum. It costs $2 to get in. Inside are self guided tours of the museum as well as the mission stables.
