Although there are rumours that Lenin's carefully preserved body may be moved to St Petersburg and removed from public display it remains here in this impressive building close to the Kremlin wall on the west side of Red Square. The tomb, designed by Aleksey Schusev, is a pyramid of cubes of dark red granite and black labradorite.
The tomb is open 10 AM - 1 PM Tue-Thu, Sat-Sun.

Vladimir Lenin was the main leader of the October Revolution, which in 1917 overthrew the tsarist government in Russia. He was the first head of the Russian Soviet Socialist Republic and from 1922, the first leader of the Soviet Union. He was the creator of Leninism, an extension of Marxist theory which became the political structure of Communist Russia.
