According to a Shuttlworth Park's historic plaque:
"Shuttleworth Park is the site of a 4.7 acre millpond. 1870-1950. Source of power, ice, recreateion with nearby factory which producted chairs, wagons, iron, cheese, flour, woolen goods. Its waters quelled the great fires of 1879, 1894, 1946."
Additionally, Shuttleworth Park contains war monuments honoring local venterans including World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and Operation Enduring Freedom.
