The Leach Street bridge crosses the Erie Canal in the Village of Lyons, New York. The original bridge across the canal at this location was built in 1838 and was made of wood. The replacement steel bridge was built in the 1870's and lasted until 1919. In 1919, the current bridge was built and is still used and maintained as of the present time. The early picture was taken around 1900, while the current one was taken on 10-13-2007. Of course, the entire area has seen urban renewal so none of the background buildings exist anymore, and the canal was widened to allow for gates to produce electricity from water power have been added and the canal lock was widened as well. Notice the Lyons Trolley on the bridge in the early picture.
Year photo was taken: 1900
