The museum displays artifacts from over two centuries of life in Essex County and the central Adirondacks. Ten major exhibit areas are spread over three floors of a 1915 school building. In addition, the museum features an Adirondack Mountain fire tower and Colonial Garden on its grounds.

This former high school building's gender separated entrances are visible and in good condition.
