Phaup, William, House - Lynchburg, Virginia - U.S. National Register of Historic Places on Waymarking.com

The William Phaup House was built in about 1817 by William Phaup on land purchased from Lynchburg Founder John Lynch. This house stood on an early stage road, which carried early traveler from the east to the County Seat of New London and to other points in Virginia’s western frontier. The house stands just a short distance from the Kentucky Hotel, which was a popular overnight stop on the stage road. William Phaup was quite a land speculator who developed several other parcels of land in the area. In 1837, the home was sold to John Mallory who held the property until the time of the Civil War. After the Civil War the Phaup House continued to serve as a private residence and today remains in private hands and is one of Lynchburg’s more historic buildings.
