I, like many others, have passed this memorial many times traveling back and forth between Central California and Central Oregon. It was only when I began caching that I drove off the road and into this wonderland - in what seemed like the middle of nowhere. Needless to say, I soon abandoned my search for the cache.
The Hot LZ Wall, containing names of US and Allied Veterans, is graced by two helicopter sculptures created by Dennis Smith. Snow-capped Mt. Shasta looms ever-present in the background.
The Living Memorial Sculpture Garden (LMSG) was founded by a group of veterans in 1988, and boasts the artwork of Dennis Smith. It is located along Hwy 97, 13 miles north of the City of Weed, CA. The 136 acres was provided by the US Forest Service and is presently sponsored and maintained by the Kiwanis Club of Weed/Lake Shastina.
More information about the LMSG can be found at their website. (
