Two steel skeletal frame structures set perpendicular to each other. Both are 26 stories and have no exterior embelishments. All floors have floor-to-ceiling windows. These large windows with surrounding black beams produce an all-glass skyscraper effect that was proposed by Mies three decades earlier.
Mies found that the unit sizes were too small for himself and he continued to live in his luxury apartment a few blocks away.
In 1980, the apartment buildings were placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
