Other than the name, Paris, Illinois does not have much in common with its French counterpart.

Founded as the county seat for Edgar County in 1823, Paris, Illinois incorporated at a village in 1849, and then adopted the City form of government in 1915.

Although the 2000 Census states the population of Paris, Illinois was 9,200 people, recent Census estimates indicate the town is slowly losing population to 8,800 in 2006.

The listed coordinates are for the sign on the west side of town.
