Long Description:After several false starts in trying to establish a public library,
Paris, Illinois successfully applied for a grant from the Carnegie
Foundation in 1902.
On August 8, 1902, the firm of Charles Henry & Sons from
Akron, Ohio was selected, and on February 17, 1903, H. B. Newman, a
local contractor, was awarded the contract with his bid of $18,000.
Work began on the construction.
Finally, on June 4, 1904, the library board held its first
meeting in the stately new structure on South Main, another of the
eighty-one libraries in the state of Illinois, established through
donations made by Andrew Carnegie.
An addition was completed in 1992 to provide accessibility and
increased space for the collection.
Internet service is available at various workstations in the
facility, plus WI-FI is also available (but make sure your battery
is fully charged because outlets are not readily available).
