On the main floor (of the University of Tampa, the former Tampa Bay Hotel)
is the Tampa Municipal Museum (open 10-3 Mon. - Fri.), containing exhibits of
rare furniture, rugs, Venetian mirrors, paintings and tapestries. A bronze
figure of Esmeralda, the dancing girl in Victor Hugo's Hunchback of
Notre Dame, stands in the rotunda. -- The WPA Guide to
Florida, 1939
The Tampa Municipal Museum became the Henry B. Plant Museum in 1974. It
is still filled with all of these great exhibits but the hours are now Tuesday
through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, 12 Noon to 4 p.m. Closed Mondays
(Jan-Nov), Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and
University of Tampa now occupies many more buildings than just the former Tampa
Bay Hotel.
