Torgeson Island, is the home to a long running experiment to determine whether penguins behave differently when they interact with humans in the wild.

Located near the US Antarctic Program's Palmer Station, this island is home to a colony of Adelie penguins. There is a row of flags running doen the middle of the island and humans are only allowed on one side. Researchers observe penguins who nest on both sides of the island to see whether the human interaction effects the penguins who nest on that half of the island.

Torgeson Island is also home to a USGS/USAP GPS reference point.
