The "New Comiskey Park" opened on April 18, 1991, three years after the Illinois General Assembly passed legislation to build the park directly across the street from old Comiskey Park.
The new park featured an exploding scoreboard that fires off fireworks after each White Sox home run and after a win, an old-time facade complete with arches and over 45,000 unobstructed-view seats and 84 luxury suites.
In January, 2003, the naming rights were purchased by US Cellular telecommunications which now gives the stadium the name of US Cellular Field.
Since the opening, the stadium has continued to be improved and remodeled based on fans' desires. The most notable is the removal and reconfiguration of over 5,000 seats in the upper balcony. The original seating arrangement was deemed to be too steep by the fans.
Although the team is doing poorly this 2007 season, the stadium still proudly announces the fact the Chicago White Sox were the 2005 World Series Champions.
US Cellular Field tours are available for groups of 10 or more on Tuesdays and Fridays - 10:30 a.m. on game days and 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on non-game days. Tours include the home dugout, the press box, the field, the suites and the Stadium Club. Advance reservations are required.
