Brown's Mill
One-half mi. S.W., on Pumpkin Vine Creek
was the site of Brown's saw-mill a landmark during
military operations May 25 - June 5, 1864.
The 23rd corps, moving from Sligh's Mill, Burt Hickory P.O.
and Owen's Mill, occupied lines on this ridge, facing S.E.
from May 26 - June 2, in active support of & in line with
the 4th, 14th and 20th Corps (Army Of The Cumberland).
These troops faced Hood's, Polk's and Hardee's
A.C. (Army of Tennessee). Two of the notable battles of the Atlanta
Campaign were fought here a New Hope Church (2 m. S) May 25th, and
at Picketts Mill 1 mi. S.E. May 27th.
