The Southwick homestead dates back over 200 years to 1803 as a working farm with dairy cows, peach orchards and vegetable gardens. Justin F. Southwick started collecting fancy poultry as a hobby during the 1930s. Justin A., son of Justin F., shared his father’s passion for collecting birds and in 1963 open the Southwick Wild Animal Farm as a family affair. In 1971, grandson Dan took over the management. By 1981, grandaughter Justine Brewer and family continued building farm. The Brewer family and its staff are dedicated to the preservation and conservation of all animals. The Southwick team’s mission: to provide an extensive zoological collection and educational facility for visitors while striving to promote an exciting environment for a positive family experience.
