Battle of Allatoona October 5, 1864
After artillery firing and repeated assaults
by French's Troops the Federals made a final
stand in the Star Fort W of the rock cut.
Filing to dislodge the defenders, French
retreated to New Hope Church in Paulding County.
French's division consisted of Young's, Cockrell's,
and Sear's Brigades. 3276 (men); losses 799.
Corse's command: Alexander's and Rowett's brigades
2137 (men) losses 706.
This battle inspired the gospel hymm,
"Hold the Fort for I am Coming".
