The Butterflies! exhibit at the Brookfield Zoo showcases butterfly species native to North America. Because of the chilly winters the Chicago area is famous for, the tent is not open from Mid September through April. Once the warmer temperatures become more stable the Butterflies! exhibit opens once again sometime in May.
Six kinds of swallowtails, four kinds of sulphurs, cabbage whites, question marks, mourning cloaks, red-spotted purples, silkmoths, monarchs, and many more transform from pupa to caterpillar to butterfly at the exhibit.
I recommend visiting as soon as the gates open for the zoo. It is not too hot for the butterflies and they are a little more docile for taking pictures, and it is not as crowded with other visitors, yet.
