At over 16,000 acres, South Mountain Park and Preserve often is considered the largest municipal park in the country. There are more than 50 miles of trails for horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking. Dobbins Lookout, at 2,330 feet, is the highest point in the park accessible by trail. If you aren't into hiking, biking or riding, you can simply drive to Dobbins Point to get a fantastic view of the Valley of the Sun.

To the east, watch jets landing at Sky Harbor International Airport, the cars zipping along the Loop 202. To the west, count the twinkling lights of El Mirage and beyond.
Dusk is the perfect time to drive to the top of South Mountain. To reach Dobbins Lookout, elevation 2,330 feet, drive south on Central Avenue past Baseline Road and the park's gates. The main road turns into Summit Road. Just follow the signs. If you can't read the signs, remember, the road ends at the sparkling ruby red lights of the communications towers above beyond Dobbins.
