Along the old right-of-way of the Kenosha Division (KD) Line of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad, the Long Prairie Trail bisects Boone County in Northern Illinois.

The Long Prairie Trail crosses Boone County. The eastern terminus of the trail is at the Boone/McHenry County line. The trail traverses the county through the villages of Capron, Poplar Grove, and Caledonia. The western terminus of the trail is at McMichael Road in Winnebago County. Access the trail can be had from all three villages and the eastern terminus. Parking lots are available at these four locations.

The following description is from the Boone County Conservation District which maintains and operates the trail:

The Long Prairie Trail (LPT) bisects northern Boone County by running from the Boone/McHenry County line through the villages of Capron, Poplar Grove, and Caledonia to McMichael Road in Winnebago County. To access the trail, parking lots are provided in all three villages and at the trail's intersection with the Boone/McHenry County Line Road.
