The Little Theatre opened it's doors in 1929, showing a silent film "Cyrano de Bergerac" to the 299 patrons in attendance. It's first talking film was "Outward Bound." It is known today for it's independent and foreign films. It's art deco style was designed by Edgar Phillips of Rochester and Frederick Pike of Buffalo. The theatre has gone through many changes throughout the years but for most of those years it has tried to remain true to it's original purpose, offering movies to an audience open to the experimental, the eclectic and the unusual. Because of it's historic significance, the Landmark Society has included it on their Walking Tour of the East End & Cultural District.
