Long-time Lakeland residents can tell you the story of Blinky, the one-eyed alligator who made his home along the shores of what was first called "Deep Lake", then "Bushy Lake" and finally renamed Lake Mirror because objects were so perfectly reflected in its waters. Blinky liked to hang out near what was Lakeland's first power plant (now the Amtrak/bus station) & was often seen sunning himself on the plant's outtake pipe in Lake Mirror. He was also known to take strolls down nearby Main Street.
