BRYAN COLLEGE
Bryan College was named to honor William Jennings Bryan (1860-1925), American statesman, orator, three-time democratic presidential candidate, former secretary of state, and spokesman for religious orthodoxy in the modernist-fundamentalist controversy, wo died here five days after the Scopes Evolution Trial of 1925, in which he assisted the prosecution. Opened in 1930, Bran is a nonsecctarian, independent ligeral arts college committed to Biblical Christianity.
