The Tretyakov Gallery, which contains an immense and important collection of Russian art, was originally housed in a 19th century residence. As the gallery expanded a Russian Revival facade with ornate doors, was designed in 1902 and added to the front of the complex. Russian Revival borrows from traditional wooden architecture and from folk art. Elements of this are shown in the decorative trim on the arches above the door and in the wood panels on the door. The door looks like it can be opened but entry to the gallery complex is though a smaller door at the side of this main door.
