Brig. Gen. Erastus B. Wolcott was Wisconsin's Surgeon General during the Civil War. He treated the poor for free, was instrumental in starting the National Soldier's Home in Milwaukee, and did the first successful removal of a diseased kidney.

This statue is located in Lake Park in Milwaukee. Take N Lake Dr from downtown Milwaukee and turn right into Lake Park. Bear right when the road forks and go to the end of the parking lot. Look for a sign for a trail to the Lighthouse. You will reach the statue before the lighthouse.

The inscription on the statue reads:
"Brig. Gen. Erastus B. Wolcott
Surgeon General of Wisconsin in the Civil
War and for thirteen years afterward.
He lived a blameless life. Eminent in his
profession. A lover of humanity, who
delighted to serve his fellowmen, his
city, state, and nation."

The artist who designed the statue is Francis Herman Packer. The artist who designed the pedestal is Albert Randolph Ross.
