Boulder field is exactly that, a giant field of boulders that is approximately 44 ft by 1800 ft and about 12 feet deep on average.
The field was created not by the withdraw of glaciers but by glacier related climatic extremes on rock outcrops. Over time, repeated freezing and thawing caused the splitting apart of these outcrops and the gradual movement of these resulting boulders down slope to their present location.
This is a registered National Natural Landmark and is protected as a State Park Natural Area.
You are free to walk across the field, though it will take you quite some time.
It is located inside Hickory Run State Park.
