Long Description:This sign can be found on the campus of the Hi-Point Career Center.
It marks the location of Campbell Hill outside of Bellefontaine,
Ohio. Campbell hill is the highest point in Ohio at an elevation of
1,549 feet.
Though it's not an extreme height, in 1951, the 664th Aircraft
Control and Warning Squadron was stationed here. This squadron was
responsible for monitoring the skies to watch for Russian aerial
attacks. The base was phased out in 1969 with the coming of NORAD.
The land was then purchased in 1974 and so began the Ohio Hi-Point
Vocational School, known as the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center
today.
The sign and highpoint are handicap accessible, and parking is
available within inches of this elevation sign.
