The first occurrence of the Dutchess County Fair was held in 1842 in Washington Hollow. The fair was held in a few different locations since then even having been canceled a few times for various reasons. In 1950, the Dutchess County Agricultural Society, Inc. bought Springbrook Park and renamed it the Dutchess County Fairgrounds consisting of 142 acres. Today, the fairgrounds have expanded to 168 acres and has been held at this location ever since.
When's the Fair?: This six day fair runs the third full week in August from Tuesday through Sunday.
Who's at the Fair?:
The Dutchess County Agricultural Society, Inc. is responsible for all aspects of the operation of the fair. Aside from the many vendors at the fair, there are also thousands of animals, agricultural exhibits, horticultural displays, old farm machine displays, a farmers museum, a relocated one room schoolhouse, grandstand events such as bands and other shows, a decent sized midway, petting zoo, talent show, K-9 exhibitions, arts and crafts, wildlife exhibits, plus a whole lot more.
