A long time ago on this mountain there was the castle, which was destroyed already very early. The castle was inhabited by Maldix vom Litermont and his family. There exists legends saying that he died on a Good Friday. Hunting a deer he fell down a ravine.
The cross is in commemoration of his mother Margarete vom Litermont, which donated a bell to the church of Nalbach.

A stone base with a metal cross, showing Jesus and the word "INRI" inscribed.
The ends of the cross look like clouds.

On top of the mountain Litermont the cross can be seen already in the far distance.
The forest surrounding the cross is a big adventure hiking park, unique in Germany, and also offers nice tracks for mountain bikers.
