'Devil's Throat' also known as 'deep throat' (lol) was created in 1932 and is about 160 feet wide and just as deep. This crater was created by a number of upheavels and then sinking back down and draining over and over again but never emitting any lava or debris. If you count the layers or rings along the inside the crater you can count the number of times different layers were deposited but never spilling over the rim.
As rains washes debris from the surrounding area into the crevis, the bottom is slowly being filled up and the hole becomes wider and more shallow.

When I asked the 'Park Ranger' why there is no directional sign or plaque at the site I was told that the crust on the perimeter that you are walking on is severely undercut and is unstable due to the rain and that they discourage visitors from accessing the area by not showing it on any of their brochures and therefore they "Do not advise anyone from visiting the site".
