Astronomers run university courses of astronomy for astronomers as well as physicists and primary and secondary school teachers. The Observatory has a public astronomical library. Research is in large part done in collaboration with the Astronomical Observatory of Padua . They have been recently observing at Asiago, Cananea, ESO, Liverpool Telescope, San Pedro Martir & and with JMU Liverpool Telescope and TNG on the Canary islands. Reseach interests include general relativity, active galactic nuclei, close stellar binary systems, stellar spectroscopy, pulsars, and telescope automation.
They are currently involved in planning of the spectroscope for the European Space Agency mission GAIA. They are also partners in the so far largest spectroscopic stellar survey of the Solar neighbourhood RAVE (RAdial VElocities) which uses the UK Schmidt telescope in Australia.
