Moana Stadium was constructed after WWII, and first hosted professional baseball when the Channel City (Ventura, CA) Oilers moved there during the 1955 season. The team became the Reno Oilers in 1955, then was renamed Silver Sox for the following season. That franchise folded after the 1964 season. A new team was formed in 1966 as the Silver Sox, The franchise was renamed Padres in 1982, went back to Silver Sox in 1988, and left Reno for good in 1993. The team is now the Lancaster JetHawks. All games were played at Moana Stadium. A group is trying to move an existing Pacific Coast League franchise to Reno for the 2008 or 2009 season, and hope to have a new stadium near the University of Nevada ready for 2009. Moana Stadium is part of a city sports park, and will remain in some form, but the grandstands are severely rundown and may have to be demolished.
